For the Seeds of Peace to take root and grow on Mother Earth we all must focus our intent on the following:
Family Planning:
Free to every woman around the world. This would be provided by the wealthy countries. Without this effort we condemn millions to poverty and early death. We need to face this issue.
Child Protection:
We talk a lot, but do little to provide true protection to children, especially in the poor countries where children are left in the streets. In our own rich nation, children are homeless with their families, or kidnapped from their beds. Shame on us.
Gender Equality:
Women are heart and soul of our world and must be treated as the precious beings they are. Education, opportunity, safety in the world, equal wages and control of our reproductive rights belong to US. Demand yours!
Freedom from Hunger:
Again, we can look to our own rich country, where children and adults go to sleep hungry in the land of plenty. Despite the best efforts of so many people hunger and starvation stalks the earth. Maybe we need to stop making weapons and grow food, dig wells and declare peace.
Sustainable Development:
Here we have ideas that can truly grow Peace. Instead of using up every last bit of everything, we could actually CONSERVE. Sustainable development means meeting the basic needs of all and extending to all the opportunity to satisfy their aspirations for a better life.
Environmental Awakening:
David Suzuki said, “We are the environment, there is no distinction.” I say, “Wake up, the coffee is boiling over.” Read, read, and read more. It’s your planet too. Then get busy and DO SOMETHING.
Micro Enterprise:
There are an estimated 1.5 billion people in poverty world wide. A group has formed something called “village banking.” A village bank consists of 30 - 50 low income women.
1. They get small loans with no collateral and small interest.
2. They get a safe and profitable place to create savings.
3. They get group support.
This is just one of several new ways to help women climb out of poverty.
Spiritual Activism:
Spiritual = of or relating to the Sacred.
Activism = vigorous action in support of or in opposition to one side of a controversial issue.
“Your work is to discover your work and then
with all your heart to give yourself to it.”
